We have mighty elephants roaming freely in the jungles while leopards chill under the tree shadows – Sri Lanka is one of the best countries when it comes to leopard sightings. You can see the bears, buffaloes, deers, wild boars and lots of monkeys within possibly one acre of radius into your safari. In this ultimate wildlife getaway, we will take you into the depths of the biggest rainforest in Sri Lanka, taking you through a several safaris in national wildlife parks and stopping at one of the most picturesque beaches in the country for a feel of sun, sand and sea.
Colombo – Sinharaja – Galle – Mirissa – Yala – Udawalawa
We will warmly welcome you at the airport, and your personal representative for the tour will escort you to the hotel you will be spending the night in. You can either join a mid – day tour around the city of Colombo, or have a good rest and recover from any jetlag you may have before the eventful 10 days you have ahead.
We will pick you up from the hotel and will take you on a 4-5 hour drive to your hotel that you will be spending in the next few days as you trek Sinharaja forest. The route from Colombo to Sinhajara is scenic and you will be able to get generous glimpses to Sri Lankan culture and everyday life.
Today is the day you will have the big trek in Sri Lanka’s largest rain forest. It is filled with tropical flora and fauna which are mostly endemic and rare. It will surely be an unforgettable experience as you travel to the middle with the surrounding sounds of thousands of insects and birds. You will be accompanied by a trained guide for the tour and you will go back to your hotel for the night.
After a tiring but fascinating trek in one of our beloved forests, you will be heading to the south coast of Sri Lanka for Dolphin and Whale Watching. You will arrive at the historic city of Galle after a few hours’ drive and you will visit the ancient Fort of Galle which has been built during the time Sri Lanka was colonized by the Dutch. You can enjoy some delicious seafood from the nearby eateries, and continue your drive to Mirissa, where you will stay the night. On the way you will be able to see the fishing villages of Sri Lanka, adding a little more into your knowledge books about the culture of this country.
Early morning you will set off for your Whale and Dolphin watching expedition accompanied by the guide. Sri Lanka is one the best locations in the world for spotting blue and sperm whales along with Dolphins. Do not forget your cameras!
After your expedition, you will be heading to Yala National Park which is famously known for the sightings of the elusive leopard. Yala boasts of the highest density of leopards in any part of the world. There will be elephants, bears, buffaloes, deers and many species of birds as you go through the jungle in a safari jeep along with a guide.
After covering a part of the Yala National park in the previous day, you can now get ready to have a full day safari covering other areas of Yala. The five lakes inside this vastly spread jungle are popular for they nourish the surrounding villages. Your guide will inform you about the traditional irrigation methods relating to these lakes and how they have created extremely intricate canals many years ago. If you are bird watching enthusiast, then Yala will be your heaven due to many endemic and migratory birds you can see everywhere. Enjoy the fresh breezes and the authentic experience of going back to the nature. Come back to the hotel for a good night’s sleep.
Today you are going to see another popular national wildlife park in Sri Lanka, Udawalawe, which is popular for herds of Elephants you can see even from the main road. The Udawalawe reservoir nourishes the wildlife and the agriculture alike, while also being a great sight with thousands of hectares of water. This reservoir is the best place for watching wildlife including the elephants since they often arrive there to drink water.
This day will also be dedicated to exploring Udawalawe, with a several morning and evening safaris to cover every part of the national park. You can schedule them at your leisure and will, while relaxing and enjoying at your scenic hotel.
Time to return to the city of Colombo! There are many things to see in our capital city. Eat some colorful and tasty street food at GalleFace, and have a mug of good beer or wine and a restaurant looking at the beautiful sunset over the ocean. Colombo is known for its night club scene, so you can do some partying while you are there.
All good things must come to an end. You can relax in your hotel and our representative will pick you up when it is time for you flight.
